Benefits of the Chief Minister’s Girl Child Protection Scheme
The Chief Minister’s Girl Child Protection Scheme provides long-term financial support to eligible girl children and encourages their education and future security. The major benefits of the scheme include:
- ₹50,000 Fixed Deposit: A fixed deposit of ₹50,000 is made in the name of the eligible girl child.
- FD Renewal: The fixed deposit is renewed after five years as per the scheme provisions.
- Annual Incentive: An annual incentive of ₹1,800 is provided from the 6th year of the fixed deposit.
- Interest Benefit: The deposited amount earns interest during the investment period.
- Maturity Benefit: The deposit amount along with the accrued interest is paid to the girl child when she reaches 18 years of age, subject to the scheme conditions.
- Encourages Education: The maturity benefit is linked to the girl child appearing for the 10th Standard Public Examination, encouraging continued education.

Eligibility of Chief Minister’s Girl Child Protection Scheme

The Chief Minister’s Girl Child Protection Scheme (CMGCPS) is intended mainly for girl children from eligible families in Tamil Nadu. For Scheme-I, which is for a family with one girl child, the main eligibility conditions are:
- The family should have only one girl child and no male child.
- The annual family income should not exceed ₹72,000.
- One of the parents should have undergone sterilization within the prescribed age limit under the scheme.
- The family should not have a male child, and no male child should be adopted in the future.
- The parents or grandparents should be native residents of Tamil Nadu, either by birth or by continuous residence of at least 10 years at the time of application.
- The scheme is also applicable to eligible Sri Lankan Tamil refugee girl children living in refugee camps in Tamil Nadu.
- For Scheme-I, the application should generally be submitted before the girl child completes 3 years of age.
Application Process – CMGCPS
Step 1: The applicant should collect all the required documents and certificates needed for the scheme, such as the girl child’s birth certificate, income certificate, sterilisation certificate, residence certificate and other applicable documents.
Step 2: The applicant should visit the nearest e-Sevai Centre/CSC and apply for the Chief Minister’s Girl Child Protection Scheme. The Tamil Nadu Government specifies that applications for this scheme are submitted through e-Sevai Centers.
Step 3: At the centre, provide the required information and submit/upload the necessary documents. The application will be processed after verification of the eligibility conditions and supporting certificates.
Step 4: After submitting the application, the applicant should obtain an acknowledgement/receipt from the e-Sevai Centre and keep the application/reference number safely for future tracking.
Step 5: The concerned department will verify the application and documents. If the application is approved, the eligible benefit under the scheme will be processed. For Scheme-I, ₹50,000 is deposited in the name of the eligible girl child as a fixed deposit.
Important: For the scheme, the parents/grandparents must satisfy the Tamil Nadu domicile requirement, and the application must be submitted within the prescribed age limit of the girl child.
