Government Working Women’s Hostel – Government Of India
About the Scheme
The Government Working Women’s Hostel Scheme was introduced to support young women who move from their hometowns to cities and other areas for employment. Rising living costs and high rental expenses can make it difficult for women from poor and middle-income families to manage their accommodation with limited salaries. To address this issue, the Government operates 21 Working Women’s Hostels, offering safe and affordable accommodation to eligible working women.
Women earning up to ₹25,000 per month in Chennai and ₹15,000 per month in other places can be eligible for admission. The monthly rent is ₹300 in Chennai and ₹200 in other places. Food, electricity, and other applicable expenses are shared among the residents, while staff salaries are borne by the Government. The scheme helps working women reduce their living expenses while providing a secure place to stay near their workplace.
